Pittsburgh,Penn,USA -Associated Press/The Toronto Star (Toronto,Ont,Canada), by DANIEL LOVERING -Mar 08, 2007: -- For Internet-savvy travelers on a budget, Megabus.com claims to offer a service that makes mainstream bus travel seem pricey: rides from Pittsburgh to Chicago for as little as $1... The Chicago-based company, which began operating in a number of American midwestern cities last year, is hoping the promise of such bargains will entice ever more drivers to leave their cars behind in favor of its colourful coaches... Megabus’ vehicles have been more than half-full on average since its launch in April 2006. It will have a fleet of 18 buses under the expansion plan, but will be able to draw on a pool of 2,500 vehicles as needed, according to Dale Moser, president and chief operating officer of Coach USA, the domestic subsidiary of Scotland-based Stagecoach Group PLC, which runs Megabus... He said the company believes the time is right for a low-cost bus service as people are looking for alternatives to driving, partly because of high gas prices. They also may want to avoid flying because of bothersome airport security procedures...
