* CityBus unveils its first ones
Lafayette,IN,USA -The Journal and Courier, by JOE GERRETY -8 Mar 2007: -- Customers riding on the inside of some new CityBus buses won't notice much of a difference... But pedestrians and motorists watching them from outside might notice something missing... Conspicuous by its absence from a couple of the new buses will be that signature puff of black smoke that billows from an accelerating diesel-powered vehicle. The new European body styling, sky-blue and white color scheme and the rooftop battery pack that makes them 16 inches taller also might catch a few second glances... CityBus officials unveiled six new buses today, including the two cleaner-burning diesel-electric hybrids...

It will soon receive hybrid buses through the Plug-In Hybrid Electric School Bus Project. Manatee School District's two hybrid school buses are part of the 19 hybrid buses awarded nationally by Advanced Energy, a non-profit corporation that initiated a buyer's consortium of school districts, state energy agencies and student transportation providers. Manatee County received a $50,000 award from Advance Energy to go towards the purchase of the hybrid buses, which cost the school district approximately $250,000 each...
