Stricter Standards * USA - New DMV head wants for school bus drivers
Hartford,Conn,USA -The Boston Globe (Boston,MA), by Susan Haigh /Associated Press -Jan 12, 2007: -- Potential school bus drivers must undergo the same criminal screenings as teachers, administrators and coaches under a policy announced Friday by the state's new motor vehicles commissioner... The move stems from the death last year of a West Hartford pedestrian hit by a school bus. Police said the driver, Robert Fountain, had a misdemeanor criminal record that should have disqualified him from getting a provisional school bus driver's license. Police say he also had cocaine in his system... The new policy will prevent the DMV from issuing school bus and van licenses to anyone convicted of or arrested for a major felony or crime stemming from child abuse and neglect...
