How, calmly led others to safety after Friday's fiery school bus crash in Lanark County - "He got the kids off the bus" Ottawa,Ontario,Canada -The Ottawa Citizen (subscription), by Roger Collier & William Lin -Jan 21, 2007: -- At about 4:10 p.m. on Friday, Matthew Gilmour was sitting in the front-left seat of his school bus listening to his favourite heavy metal band on his MP3 player when he noticed an oncoming blue pickup truck that he says was "drifting into our lane."... A split-second later, the bus and truck collided. Matthew, 15, and the six other students on the bus, who range in age from 10 to 17, suffered a host of injuries, including a broken nose, cracked ribs, a punctured lip and a bruised knee. The bus driver, Nancy Sont, and the truck driver, a 50-year-old Balderson man, were also injured... Mrs. Sont noticed that a fire had started under the bus's hood. Matthew also noticed... According to Mrs. Sont, throughout the ordeal, Matthew yelled instructions, tended to bleeding schoolmates, and made everyone stay away from the bus...(Matthew Gilmour, 15, knew what to do when his school bus was in a collision Friday afternoon.
