* USA - Clean bus fuel funds announced
Palm Srings,CAL,USA -The Desert Sun, by Benjamin Spillman -Oct 13, 2006: -- America's bus riders could save the air while saving money commuting if nearly $100 million for nonpolluting buses pays off as expected... On Thursday, the federal government's top public transit official announced the investment in clean-running buses during a stop at SunLine Transit in Thousand Palms, the country's first transit agency to operate an entire fleet of natural gas-powered buses...

* Canada - Diesel fuel's sulphur content cut by 97 per cent
Vancouver,CAN -The Vancouver Sun (subscription)/CanWest News Service, by Pedro Arrais -Oct 13, 2006: -- Canadians can breathe easier due to new federal regulations -- the Sulphur in Diesel Fuel regulation -- that will come into effect this month... The standards, effective Oct. 15, will see fuel companies reducing the sulphur content of on-road diesel fuel by 97 per cent, from 500 parts per million (ppm) to 15... In tandem with new vehicle emission regulations the ultra-low sulphur diesel will reduce exhaust emissions (nitrogen oxides and particulate matter) from diesel-powered vehicles... * UK - Bid to drive 'dirty' buses off road - Firms may have to use low polluting vehicles on lucrative routes
Leeds,Yorkshire,UK -The Yorkshire Post Today, by Paul Whitehouse -10 Oct 2006: -- Bus companies could be forced to update their fleets with modern low polluting vehicles if they want to operate services on some of the county's most attractive routes in future... South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Authority, and its operational arm of the Transport Executive, are concerned about air quality in the county, especially in Sheffield city centre and some other parts of the county with high traffic densities...

* India - Himachal Pradesh roadways to dump 600 buses
Shimla,Andhra Pradesh,India -Telugu Portal (Hyderabad,Andhra Pradesh,Ind)/IANS -Oct 11, 2006: -- The Himachal Roadways Transport Corporation (HRTC) is to retire around a third of its fleet of buses as it is unsafe to travel in these battered vehicles in the hill state... An official said some 600 HRTC buses have travelled beyond the permissible limit of over 600,000 km and hence are considered unsafe for public transport... These old buses are currently plying on dusty unpaved winding mountain roads in the villages where they are more prone to accidents...
