* Sweden - School buses broke transport regulations
Gothenburg,Sweden -The Local/Göteborgs-Posten -2nd Sept 2006: -- Only one in three school transport vehicles have been approved for disabled children in a check carried out by Gothenburg police... Some 38 taxis and buses of used to ferry children to two schools were checked during three days at the end of August... Of those, 27 vehicles were found to be inadequate, reported... In 16 cases the vehicles broke school transport regulations... "Many vehicles were missing visible school signs, others did not use the required flashing indicators," said Anders Granath, head of the roads control group at Gothenburg Traffic Police... * Iran - Bus, truck collision leaves 27 dead in
Isfahan,Iran -Agency ISNA /Iran Focus (Tehran) -Sep. 3, 2006: -- A passenger bus collided with a truck on a highway in central Iran leaving 27 people dead and five others injured... The accident occurred at 4.40 am local time in the province of Isfahan... The head of Iran’s traffic police Brigadier General Mohammad Rouyanian announced in June that the expected death toll from accidents on Iran’s highways for the current year stood at 31,000... Iran's highways are considered to be among the most dangerous in the world, with some 100,000 road-accident deaths occurring in the last five years, the equivalent of three deaths an hour...


* Australia - Regulations tightened after tour bus crash
New South Wales,Australia -ABC Online -Sept 3, 2006: -- The New South Wales Roads and Traffic Authority (RTA) says it has tightened registration procedures after the death of three people in an accident involving a tour bus on the state's south coast last year... A transport safety report has found the accident on Jamberoo Mountain Road was caused when the brakes of the bus failed... The bus was registered by the RTA even though it did not meet the inspection rules... "The bus involved here was an imported second-hand bus, and we've taken other measures in relation to imported second-hand buses to make sure that they go through a more rigorous inspection and certification process."...
