Opinion - UK - Make Money On The Buses
UK -The Motley Fool UK, by David Kuo -July 3, 2006: -- ... But I am not the only one who has recognised the improved efficiency of London busses. Australian investment bank Macquarie was so impressed that it snapped up Stagecoach's, London Bus arm, for £254m in cash. According to Stagecoach, its London bus operation has been a successful part of its UK Bus division since 1994. It generated profits of around £24m on sales of about £225m... Additionally, as more money is spent on public transport, growth and yield may prompt further consolidation within the industry. So, in my view, Macquarie's recent acquisition may not be an isolated occurrence. But the thing to remember with acquisitions is that you may wait weeks, if not months, for one to come along, then two or three may arrive at once!...
