Not to worry - USA - County school buses to park on contaminated properties
Towson,MD,USA -Towson Jeffersonian, by Pat van den Beemt -6 July 2006: -- Groundwater contamination was discovered at the Army's former Nike missile site off Paper Mill Road in Jacksonville in the 1980s. It was detected just a few months ago at the closed Parkton landfill off Stabler's Church Road in Parkton... Now both sites will become parking lots for Baltimore County school buses... Since the diesel tanks at the lots are above the ground, county officials don't anticipate any further contamination problems... Within the next 18 months, Baltimore County will put a 40-bus parking lot on about 2 acres at each location... When contamination from the former Nike missile site was discovered in groundwater in the 1980s, the federal government paid to have a community well system with an off-site water sourceinstalled that serves water to about a dozen homes...
