LEWISTON, Maine,USA -Boston Globe -May 30, 2006: -- One out of every four school buses failed mandatory safety inspections last year, but the number of failed inspections this year has been cut in half... The state conducts mandatory bus inspections every year to make sure they're fit for the road. Since 2003, seven Maine school business have involved in accidents that were blamed on defective brakes or other mechanical problems... In 2005, 27 percent of school buses were pulled off the road because they failed inspection, said state inspector Jamie Dionne. So far this year, the number of failures has been cut to about 13 percent...
