Survey - USA - Attracting Rhode Island bus riders may be difficult
PROVIDENCE, R.I.,USA -Boston Globe -May 30, 2006: -- Persuading more Rhode Islanders to ride the state's bus system could prove difficult, according to a new survey... A private firm commissioned by the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority polled 450 people in who hadn't taken a bus in at least three months. Of that group, 45 percent said there's nothing RIPTA could do to persuade them to ride the bus... The ridership study was ordered by the General Assembly, which is trying to figure a new course for the transit agency after several years of financial problems... According to the survey, which was conducted in February and March, the majority of non-riders polled have free parking at work or school. A large number told pollsters they wouldn't ride the bus even if it were free and went nonstop to their destination...
