Hawaii, USA - KHON 2, by Linda Coble -Dec 1, 2005: -- Police have wrapped up their investigation into a crash involving a school bus and a truck in Kaimuki, but aren't releasing their findings... There are different accounts of what happened.
Students said their bus driver was on a call when she ran a red light... But the president of the school bus company says dispatch and phone logs show his driver was not using a two-way or cell phone around the time of the accident... Federal statistics show school buses are seven times safer than regular passenger vehicles. Accidents happen, and the government makes sure school bus drivers are thoroughly screened and trained... The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has determined there's no safer form of public transportation than school buses. Last year, nationwide, eight school bus fatalities were recorded, none here...
