The Anaheim Transporation Network and NexGen Power Group will test 2 zero-emission transit buses starting in DecemberAnaheim,CAL,USA -Business Review, by Laura Clapper -Jul 25, 2010: -- The Anaheim Transportation Network (ATN) and NexGen Power Group, Inc. have announced a partnership to road test zero-emission, battery-powered transit buses. The buses will be retrofitted by NexGen to run on an electric operating platform... The buses, a 40-foot diesel and a 22-foot diesel will run on electric for a full day. The retrofit will take about six months to complete. When the test year is over, ATN has the option to lease the buses, sell them to NexGen or have them returned to diesel-running buses... The state environmental agency is encouraging school districts across Texas to invest in technology to cut down on school bus emissions... Districts can apply for a total of $8 million in grants to fund devices that attach to the buses and help reduce their pollution... More than 36,000 buses carry an estimated 1.3 million Texas students every day, according to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. About a third of those buses are at least 10 years old and emit elevated levels of pollutants... Salem,OR,USA -The Statesman Journal -February 13, 2008: -- Regarding Cherriots' shift to clean-diesel buses, clean-diesel buses are not more expensive to operate... Our natural-gas buses cost 15 cents per mile more to operate. The only cheaper cost for natural-gas buses is fuel. All other costs are more expensive, including the enormous capital investment that must be made just to fuel these buses. The federal government does provide 50 cents per gallon rebate, but this rebate ends in October... Regarding emissions, clean-diesel buses are as clean as or cleaner than our current natural-gas buses. The natural-gas buses meet 2010 emission requirements. The clean diesel meets 2007 standards.
