Salem,OR,USA -The Statesman Journal -February 13, 2008: -- Regarding Cherriots' shift to clean-diesel buses, clean-diesel buses are not more expensive to operate... Our natural-gas buses cost 15 cents per mile more to operate. The only cheaper cost for natural-gas buses is fuel. All other costs are more expensive, including the enormous capital investment that must be made just to fuel these buses. The federal government does provide 50 cents per gallon rebate, but this rebate ends in October... Regarding emissions, clean-diesel buses are as clean as or cleaner than our current natural-gas buses. The natural-gas buses meet 2010 emission requirements. The clean diesel meets 2007 standards. All diesel buses will meet these standards in 2010 as well...
