CRIME on BUSES * China - Pick-pocketing cases on the rise in Xiamen, especially on BRT buses

Xiamen,Fujian,China -Whats on Xiamen -11 Oct 2010: -- Xiamen Police Saturday released a briefing report on the crimes during the National Day holiday in the city. According to the report, the city saw a big increase in criminal cases compared to last year's National Day holiday. Public security cases and traffic accidents were also up in comparison to last year's... Most criminal cases show the following characteristics...


1. Fraud cases were on the rise compared to last National holiday period. Telecommunication crime ranks the first while internet fraud increased at the fastest rate. These cases mainly happened in Siming and Huli District.

2. Pick-pocketing cases continued to show an upward tendency. They often happened in BRT buses, Bus 750, 19, and 513, and areas around Zhongshan Road and Nanputuo Temple.

3. Motor vehicle theft cases were also up in comparison to last year's. Most cars stolen are Huandai, Honda CR-V and Wuling K-cars. Motor vehicle theft mostly occurred in Jimei and Tong'an districts. Besides, electric motor cars theft cases were down, and cases mainly happened in Huli and Siming districts.

4. Robbery cases went down during the golden week because of the strict enforcement of laws during the holiday, according to the report.
