* Hawaii - First of 20 new hybrid buses blessed
Honolulu,Hawaii,USA -The Honolulu Advertiser By Sean Hao -April 2, 2010: -- The city yesterday dedicated the first of 20 new hybrid-electric buses destined for Honolulu roads... The nearly $1 million, 60-foot buses are costlier than standard diesel buses. However, the hybrid buses also are more fuel efficient, less polluting and quieter than diesel buses... The buses, which will be delivered during a two-year period, are being paid for with a portion of federal stimulus money... The 20 New Flyer 60-foot buses are made primarily in Minnesota. They cost the city about $975,000 each. In contrast, a standard 40-foot clean diesel transit bus costs the city about $395,000. The purchase will expand the city's hybrid fleet to 70 buses. * New York - Stimulus-funded buses headed for Stamford
Stamford,NY,USA -The Stamford Advocate, by Martin B. Cassidy -March 28, 2010: -- Between May and autumn, city riders will begin to see 17 new stimulus-financed buses as they replace aging coaches, meet tighter emission regulations and increase capacity along routes between Greenwich and Norwalk and the I-Bus route to White Plains, N.Y... By early May, the CTTransit Stamford District expects to receive four, 45-foot-long clean diesel coaches that will replace coaches that are more than a decade old ... The new buses can carry up to 55 passengers, compared with 38 on the older buses, said Philip Fry, assistant general manager for marketing for CTTransit... By September, the district expects to receive 13 60-foot articulated buses to cover routes between Port Chester, N.Y., and Norwalk. The buses can carry up to 62 passengers, compared with 44 on the older buses, which date to 1996, he said...
