BUSES INSPECTION * South Africa - Roadlink buses to be scrutinised in KZN

Pietermaritzbur,KwaZulu-Natal.S.A. -IOL, by SIPHO KHUMALO -April 9, 2010: -- With immediate effect, on S.A. Roadlink buses will be allowed to enter the province of KwaZulu-Natal without being subjected to roadworthy inspection... In addition, no buses will leave depots in and around Durban without a pre-trip inspection carried out by experienced officers... These are some of the safety measures to be imposed on the troubled bus company's operations announced by the KZN Transport MEC, Willies Mchunu, in Pietermaritzburg yesterday... These would see all buses entering and leaving the province being subjected to mechanical tests by the department's Public Transport... The MEC said the measures were in response to public outcry on the operations of Roadlink, which has had more than 12 incidents in the province since 2006... Mchunu said the vehicle and driver would be checked for safety and compliance, licence, operator licence, professional driver's licence, passenger count and survey, fraudulent discs, driver's fitness and scanned for alcohol...
