Utah's first MAX bus route, the 35M, just got speedier
West Valley,Utah,USA -The Salt Lake Tribune, by Cathy McKitrick -6 April 2010: -- MAX, Utah's first rapid bus transit, began operation Monday on 3500 South, running every 15 minutes between Magna and Millcreek. The bus has a dedicated lane in West Valley and with limited stops and traffic signal priority it is billed as faster and more reliable than traditional bus service, and helps reduce travel time to 25 minutes each direction... Construction of the $8 million bus-only lane piggybacked on that project, Carpenter said, noting that future extension of the bus-specific lane to 5600 South will require similar coordination... Route 35M makes 15 stops and carries 4,100 riders a day, Carpenter said, adding that future fast buses will likely be hybrid diesel-electric vehicles...
