* USA - Azure Dynamics and Collins Bus team up for hybrid electric school buses

Oak Park,MI,USA -PRNewswire/FirstCall -April 9, 2009: -- Azure Dynamics Corporation, a leading developer of hybrid electric and electric technologies for commercial vehicles, announced today an exclusive partnership with Collins Bus Corporation of South Hutchinson, Kansas. The agreement allows Collins' network of distributors and customers to specify Azure's Balance Hybrid Electric technology on their Type A school bus orders. Type A school buses can typically transport between 14 and 30 passengers... Azure's Balance Hybrid Electric drivetrain can achieve up to 40% increase in fuel economy, while reducing maintenance costs by 30%. Importantly, the Azure technology also reduces harmful greenhouse emissions by up to 30%. This opportunity to improve air quality, especially with children nearby, is an attractive feature to many school systems...


* South Korea - Hyundai Motor Co. debuts next-gen fuel cell buses

Seoul, S. Korea -Anupam/ecofriend -Apr 9 2009: -- Three years after introducing its first fuel cell bus, Hyundai Motor Co. has recently launched the next-gen fuel-cell buses, which with added technology and engine refinement are much better than their old buses. The company claims that with a better engine, the buses plying on fixed routes need at most two fueling stations, one at each terminus, which is easy to build and is cost-effective as well... Based on the latest Low Floor Aero City bus platform, the newest fuel cell electric bus features numerous technical refinements which have increased the maximum speed to 100km/h. This improves on the 75km/h limit of the previous system which relied on a single 240kW motor. Under the new architecture, three 100kW Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors are arranged in parallel to provide a total of 300kW of propulsion for a 33 percent improvement in top speed... This new generation of ecofriendly buses will be put into daily service in cities around Korea. The company estimates that powered by six cylinders of hydrogen mounted on the rooftop, the buses will have an operating range of over 350km, while driving in city mode...
