BUS RAPID TRANSIT * USA - Mesa touts new rapid bus line
Mesa,AZ,USA -The Arizona Republic, by Gary Nelson -Jan. 14, 2009: -- Mesa is blowing the horn for its new bus rapid transit line, which got rolling the same weekend as light rail but didn't get nearly as much publicity as the trains... Nor has it gotten nearly as much ridership... Valley Metro spokeswoman Susan Tierney said weekday ridership averaged about 950 people for the bus system's first few days of operation... That's about 95 people per day for each of the 10 big buses that Mesa received courtesy of Maricopa County taxpayers. But the city thinks ridership will grow as people become aware of the Metro Link and as its infrastructure comes together later this year...
