* Reconfiguration drives need for new buses

Galveston,TX,USA -The Galveston County Daily News, by Rhiannon Meyers -March 16, 2008: -- For five years, Cheryl Smith hauled Galveston schoolchildren in a bus that was older than they were. Smith’s bus Lucille — didn’t have air conditioning. It wasn’t equipped with security cameras... After the oil line ruptured, scaring the “bejeezus” out of Smith, the bus spent more time in the shop than it did out on the road... This year, Smith retired Lucille and swapped her out for Lucille 2, a 2008 model, equipped with air-conditioning, security cameras, booster seats, seat belts and global positioning systems... In the past year, the district has bought seven new buses, all fitted with the latest technology. The district also equipped its entire fleet of 53 buses with security cameras, Bus Radio and global positioning systems... Roy said the transportation department would spend the entire summer preparing for the reconfiguration and sending drivers out to practice the new routes...


* Two More Hydrogen-Fueled Ford E-450 Shuttle Buses Delivered

Detroit,Mich,USA -Technology News Daily (Scottsdale,AZ) -17 March 2008: -- Two hydrogen-fueled Ford E-450 shuttle buses to be used for transporting airline passengers between terminals at Detroit Metropolitan Airport (DTW) have been delivered... The delivery is the result of a partnership involving Ford, the Wayne County Airport Authority and the Southeast Michigan Council of Governments (SEMCOG). The project is being funded with a Department of Energy grant...
