Subsidized Fuel * Zimbabwe - Bus fuelling an inconvenience to commuters
The noble idea taken by the government of making buses carry travelers first before they go for refueling is proving to be inconveniencing them
Harare,Zimbabwe -The Zimbabwe Gazette, by Tawanda Kadungure -January 08 2008: -- ... Long distance buses which go to rural areas were mandated some months ago to carry passengers first from Mbare Musika bus station and then go for refueling at designated fuelling stations... Long bus lines can be seen from most of these stations and most buses spend the whole day waiting for the government supplied subsidized fuel. Recently BP fuel station along Seke Road at Caledon Shopping Centre was given the leeway to fuel these buses. People could be seen waiting impatiently for the buses to refuel... Unconfirmed reports from government officials are saying that they took this initiative so as to instill discipline in the transport sector. It is alleged that these bus operators before this stance were in the habit of filling their bus tanks with cheap government fuel and then go and sell the diesel at the black market. The subsidized fuel is unreasonably cheap that it is tempting to sell the fuel than to carry people as bus operators make more money that way...
