PET BUSES ? * Canada - Let pets ride OC Transpo, group urges
A group of dog-lovers wants Ottawa City Council to consider allowing passengers to bring pets on OC Transpo buses
Ottawa,ONT,CAN -The Ottawa Citizen, by Glen McGregor -September 24, 2007: -- ... The National Capital Coalition for People and Dogs says Ottawa should look to other Canadian cities, where dogs and cats are free to ride public transit with their owners... Her group notes that transit users are allowed to bring dogs on buses, street cars and subways in Toronto during off-peak hours, provided they are leashed or kept in a travel crate. Vancouver's transit authority also allows small pets kept in hand-held cages. In Calgary, large and small dogs are allowed with a $2.25 fee and cats in cages ride free... Ms. O'Connell says she doesn't expect animals would cause problems for other passengers with allergies. A passenger with a pet would be asked to get off and ride on the next bus if the animal caused problems for another rider, she said...
BUT, Comments: Wendy -Sep 24, 2007: -- I do not want their dogs on the bus too. Inconsiderate behaviour on the bus? - well, let me see: young people sprawl in their seats and prop their feet up on the seats across the aisle; people listen to music with the volume cranked up so loud it intrudes on others; people shouting into their cell phones (again, an intrusion to others); people littering on the buses. If that's the way the humans act on the bus, can you imagine what they allow their dogs to do? ....dogs sitting on the seats, dogs jumping on other passengers or nosing their crotches, dogs barking at each other on the bus, etc...
