DANGEROUS DRIVERS * Belize - 6 dead, 18 injured in collision between truck and bus

Belize City,Belize -Amandala, by Anita Nembhard -25 Sept 2007: -- A horrific traffic accident that occurred between Miles 35 and 36 on the Western Highway last Thursday, September 20, Independence eve, has killed six persons so far and injured as many as 18... There is no official police report on what may have caused the accident, and whether police would be charging any of the drivers... The accident occurred sometime around 11:00 and 11:30 a.m., between a bus belonging to Belize National Transportation Services Limited, driven at the time by Tyrone Gillett, 30, and a truck driven at the time by Michael Escalante, 34, other particulars unknown... We were unable to speak with any of the drivers, because they had been hospitalized, but Jones told us that immediately after the accident his driver called him and told him that “he was banged up,” and that people who were not seriously injured were trying to help those that sustained serious injury...
