A new $60 million Christchurch bus exchange close to the current site will be "future-proofed" for 30 years, says the Christchurch City Council
Waipara,New Zealand -The Press, by WARREN GAMBLE -22 September 2007: -- The council yesterday revealed the replacement site for the $20 million existing exchange – nearing capacity after only six years of operation... It will be 100m further west on Lichfield Street... Mayor Garry Moore said the popularity of the existing exchange caused congestion in the waiting lounges and in Lichfield Street... In the past six years Christchurch bus passenger trips had increased by 47 per cent to 19,000 daily and were projected to rise to 23,000 by 2010...
