New laws could return control of services to local councils in a bid to improve quality, but what will it mean to bus firms - and their shareholders?
London,England,UK -The Telegraph, by Jonathan Russell -5 June 2007: -- Changes to legislation governing the bus industry could see the biggest shake-up in the sector for over 20 years... Under draft legislation published last month, it will make it far easier for councils to impose "Quality Contracts" on bus companies, effectively re-regulating their operations. While the bus companies seem to be keen to try and work with the local authorities to maintain the status quo, the authorities are becoming increasingly bullish about their chances of taking back control of the bus services, which many believe shouldn't have been deregulated in the first place...
