"TICKETS, please"... * Australia - Bus trips on Coast to get smarter
That phrase could become part of a nostalgic past before long, as smart cards are introduced to the Coast's bus and train transport systems.
Queensland,Australia -The Sunshine Coast Daily, by Alan Lander -1 June 2007 : -- Coast bus transport company Sunbus depot manager Bob Carney yesterday said its fleet of 76 buses was already fitted with the new technology... "Our drivers are pretty excited, too," he said... "It will reduce the handling of cash, it will also make on-loading and off-loading of passengers a lot quicker"... The cards do not even need to be swiped - just touched to a sensor as you get on, and touched again as you get off... You top up your card's credit in the same way as you top up your pre-paid mobile phone, or over the phone, on the internet or with fare machines at train stations...
