* South Africa - 12 die in holiday bus crash
Johannesburg,SA - Reuters AlertNet (London,England,UK), by By Andrew Quinn -24 Dec 2006: -- Twelve people were killed on Sunday when a South African bus veered out of control and overturned, the latest holiday accident on some of the most dangerous roads in the world... Police said the bus packed with Christmas travellers lost control outside Pietermaritzburg in KwaZulu-Natal province, overturning and smashing into the pillars of a bridge... At least 40 more people injured in the accident were taken to local hospitals, SAPA said...

* Peru - Bus crash kills at least 9
LIMA,Peru -Associated Press -Dec. 24, 2006: -- A bus plunged into a river in Peru's central mountains, killing at least nine people and leaving four missing, police said Sunday... Regional police official Jose Canto said by telephone that the bus was carrying 18 people on Saturday in the state of Junin, 140 miles east of the capital of Lima, when it drove off the road and fell 100 feet into the Paucartambo River...

* India - Bus plunges into river, 40 feared killed
Ranchi,India -Reuters (UK) -Dec 30, 2006: -- At least 40 people were feared drowned on Saturday when a bus plunged off a bridge into the Ganges river in eastern India, authorities said... The bus crashed through the railings of the bridge about 10 km (6 miles) north of Patna city, capital of Bihar state, said Awdhesh Kumar, a senior government official... The driver apparently lost control in the dense morning fog, witnesses said... Buses in India often carry more people than they are allowed to and often ignore traffic rules and speed limits...
