* Mexico - 21 Dead After Train Hits Bus - 14 More Injured
Cuautitlan,Mexico -Notimex/AP/CBS News -Dec. 28, 2006: -- A freight train slammed into a passenger bus and dragged it down the tracks in central Mexico on Thursday, killing 21 people and injuring as many as 14, police said... State prosecutors said in a news release that the driver of the bus tried to beat the train at a crossing... But an assistant state prosecutor in Cuautitlan, Alejandro Jardon, told the government news agency that investigations indicated the bus had stalled as it crossed the tracks, and the driver — unable to restart it — fled as the train approached, leaving passengers to their fate... * UK - Bus driver caught drink-driving
UK -BBC News -22 Dec 2006: -- A bus driver caught at the wheel while drunk has been banned for 18 months and fined £200... At Paisley Sheriff Court, Anthony Ennis, 42, from Paisley, admitted drink-driving while employed as a bus driver in the town on 16 December... He was almost three times the drink-drive limit when stopped by police shortly after mid-day...
* UK - Bus company suspended because its drivers can't read English
London,England,UK -The Times, by Russell Jenkins -Dec 26, 2006: -- A bus company has been ordered to suspend its fleet because of concerns about vehicle safety and whether its mainly Polish drivers have a good enough command of English to understand road signs... The owners of UK North and GM Buses Ltd, one of the biggest companies in Manchester, have admitted that they do not know how many of their staff can speak English... Beverley Bell, the North Western Traffic Commissioner, ordered the company to keep its 74-bus fleet in the garage after a public inquiry that was prompted by a fatal accident...
* China - Bus accident in southwest China kills 17
Beijing,China -Xinhua News Agency/AP/China Daily (China) -29 Dec 2006: -- Seventeen people were killed and at least seven others were injured when a bus hit several road workers and then plunged off a cliff in southwestern China, state media reported Friday... The accident in Yunnan province in southwestern China occurred when a bus carrying 21 people hit three road workers and then fell 90 meters (100 yards) down a cliff... Fourteen of the passengers and one of the road workers were killed immediately, while two others died on the way to a hospital, it said...
