* Thailand - Solar-powered bus seen asviable business
Bangkok,Thailand -akamat.wordpress.com/Bangkok Post -26 Dec 2006: -- The first commercially viable solar-energy bus has been successfully developed under a joint state-private research project... The 20-seater minibus was introduced yesterday by the Office of the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT) and Clean Fuel Energy Enterprise Co (C-FEE), a private manufacturer of electric mini-cars,golf carts, tuk-tuks and motorcycles... The bus, which took seven months to develop, features 10 solar-cell panels of one square metre each on its roof. It has a maximum speed of 60 kilometres per hour and can be continuously driven for 60 km... Other features include air-conditioning, a 42” TV screen, DVD player and radio... (See picture right)
* USA - Chandler district school buses going high-tech
Chandler,AZ,USA -The East Valley Tribune (Mesa,AZ,USA), by Jennifer Pinner -Dec 24, 2006: -- The Chandler Unified School District’s buses are going high-tech next fall. Thirty-seven new school buses will be equipped with GPS systems and computers that will store video footage taken during each ride... Eventually, the district will be able to track the location of any bus at any given time and possibly even the identities of the students on that bus... The new equipment — created by Scottsdale-based National Scientific Corp. — will be helpful when schools need to review any incidents on the buses...

To start with, Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport - has installed 75 telephones. The entire fleet of 3,400 single and double-decker buses will be fitted with telephones in a phased manner...
* USA - RTA Adds Buses With High-Tech Security For New Year
Cleveland,OH,USA -NewsNet5.com -Dec 27, 2006: -- The New Year will start with a new look as well as tighter security for Cleveland's RTA buses... RTA announced Wednesday that Cleveland will have 45 new buses on the road in 2007... All the vehicles will have state-of-the-art camera systems to help with security. In April, a bus with the new camera system gave clear color pictures of a man suspected of stabbing a passenger on an RTA trolley... The new buses also burn ultra-low-sulfur diesel fuel, are equipped with bike ramps and are handicapped accessible...
