Safety - New Zealand - Crash investigator says seatbelts needed in buses

Wellington,New Zealand -Radio New Zealand -31 Oct 2006: -- A serious crash investigator believes seatbelts should be mandatory in buses, after a schoolbus rolled off a West Auckland road on Monday... The bus was taking about 40 students to five schools when it reeled off the Coatsville-Riverhead Highway, falling about 5m down a bank and landing on its roof... Senior Constable Gary Abbott of the North Shore serious crash unit says it is extremely lucky the bus did not roll any further and he believes seatbelts should be installed... Senior Constable Abbott says police are still investigating whether charges will be laid against the driver, who has been suspended on full pay...
