Warn - USA - 20 buses had potential fire hazards
Defects were fixed, education agency officials say
Columbia,SC,USA -The State -Aug. 19, 2006: -- Mechanics have completed inspections of all 2,100 Type D buses and found potential fire hazards in the electrical systems of 20 buses... During the inspections, mechanics found potential fire hazards in three buses identical to the problems that caused two bus fires earlier this year... Two 1995 rear-engine buses assigned to the Summerville maintenance shop had worn cables, as did a third inspected at a garage in Chesterfield, according to a State Department of Education report released Friday... The repairs to 17 buses were characterized as “related defects.”... All 20 buses were repaired...
