Unsafe - USA - Some bus stops dropped, labeled as
Sonora,CA,USA -Union Democrat, by SUNNY LOCKWOOD -August 9, 2006: -- Seven stops on Bret Harte High School's bus routes that required drivers to stop and see that kids get across roads are being dropped because of safety concerns... Bret Harte Union High School District Board of Education members Monday approved dropping the stops along Highway 4, where school bus drivers have to try and stop traffic so students can walk across the busy highway... At escorted stops, the driver stops the bus, turns on flashing red lights and carries a stop sign as she or he escorts the students to the other side of the highway... Under the new plan, those students will stay on the bus until it turns around at the end of the route. Then, on the way back, the students can exit on the right hand side of the highway with no dangerous crossing needed, said Patti Reid, district transportation director...
