"Kura" - New Zealand - School can have Maori bus sign

Rotorua,Wellington,New Zealand -Stuff.co.nz -4 August 2006: -- A Maori immersion school can label its bus "kura" instead of "school" as long as it is accompanied by an internationally recognised symbol... The Rotorua schoolTe Kura Kaupapa Maori o Te Rotoiti – had been told by Land Transport New Zealand that it was against regulations for a schoolbus not to have a sign saying "school"... Principal Hawea Vercoe argued the sign did say "school"but in Maori, not English. Now Land Transport has agreed to consider "kura" valid... Spokesman Andy Knackstedt said the body now had to decide on what the sign would look like...
