Buses won’t roll - USA - For 1,384 students, board determines
Columbus,OH,USA -The Columbus Dispatch, by Bill Bush -August 02, 2006: -- The Columbus Board of Education yesterday declared 1,384 students "impractical" to transport to school this fall, prompting charter-school advocates to accuse the district of violating state law... The district will mail letters today to 1,010 private-school and 374 charter-school students informing them that they will not be bused to school. Parents of these students will receive a check for $172 toward providing their own transportation to school... The district used six reasons for declaring students impractical to transport: The ride time is more than 30 minutes, there are too few students to be transported from that location, the cost is excessive, similar service is not provided to other students, the service disrupts other routes, and other reimbursable options for getting that student to school aren’t available.
