Safety - India - City school buses not sticking to SC norms
NEW DELHI,India -Times of India, by Dhananjay Mahapatra -2 Aug, 2006: -- Tuesday's accident brought back memories of the Wazirabad accident in Delhi in 1997, when 28 students died after their bus fell into the Yamuna River... Shocked by the heart-rending incident and lack of follow-up action by the authorities to rein in errant bus drivers, the Supreme Court (SC) had prescribed elaborate guidelines to minimise the risk that school children ran while travelling in private buses hired by schools to ferry them... The guidelines were meant for school buses all over the country. In the Capital, the Delhi Traffic Police started enforcing the guidelines from 2004...
