Brisbane,Australia -Australasian Bus and Coach -15 August 2006: -- Brisbane is in the midst of a public transport crisis with insufficient buses to cater for demand and not enough city kerb space to load or unload passengers. Two out of three buses on major city routes are overcrowded during peak hours... The council will need to more than double it’s 642-strong bus fleet by 2026 if current growth trends continue... The report says the council, which bodies most of its buses at its workshop at Toowong, needs to dramatically increase its bus production to keep pace with demand... The facility currently builds 71 new buses a year, but will need to increase that to 75 buses a year after 2008 and to 160 buses a year by 2018...
