First day usually holds delays
Louisville,KY,USA -The Louisville Courier-Journal, by Chris Kenning -August 14, 2006: -- ... Tomorrow, when most Jefferson County public schools reopen, Shepherd will be driving one of 830 buses that will clock a combined 85,000 miles each day carrying 60,000 students. Buses will make more than 10 million stops during the school year... Parents can stress the following tips with their children (Source: Jefferson County Public Schools; National Safety Council): * Wait for a bus away from traffic and the street, and avoid roughhousing that can lead to carelessness. * Stay away from the bus until the driver says it's safe to board. Use handrails. * Always sit when on the bus, and never put arms out the window. Keep aisles clear. * If you must cross the street in front of the bus, make sure the driver can see you and signals you before you cross...
