Greater Transparency - UK - Bus routes opened to private firms
Belfast,UK -The Belfast Telegraph, by Robin Morton -22 August 2006: -- Private sector operators are to be given access to Ulsterbus routes in a shake-up of public transport provision announced today... Regional Development Minister, David Cairns, said the changes would benefit the travelling public by providing more competition... He said the overhaul did not represent wholesale privatisation or complete deregulation, but would provide greater transparency... The key proposal is the setting up of a new Passenger Transport Authority for Northern Ireland which will design, secure and manage services...
