VANCOUVER,Canada -Globe and Mail, by EVA SALINAS -4 Aug 2006: -- On the most dangerous stretch for bus drivers, over the most familiar dispute, a bus driver was punched in the face this week on Hastings Street by a man who couldn't pay the full fare... It was the latest in a surge of assaults on Lower Mainland bus drivers and their union says the transit system continues to boil over with problems... Working conditions are so poor, Mr. Houlahan said, that both riders and drivers are extremely frustrated... The Lower Mainland has seen an unprecedented increase in bus riders, to more than 200 million from 160 million in 2002. Mr. Houlahan is not surprised that the number of assaults has risen...

Syracuse,NY,USA -News 10 Now -4 Aug 2006: -- A 20-year-old Liverpool woman faces a laundry list of charges including DWI and leaving the scene of a crash after hitting a school bus Friday morning... Amy McClowsky attempted to turn on to Long Branch Road and hit the school bus instead. Investigators said McClowsky left the scene of the crash, but they caught up with her a short time later... There were no children on the bus at the time, and the driver was not hurt...

The cocaine and the 2000 Mercedes bus were seized Thursday night at the Lincoln-Juarez Bridge... A drug-sniffing dog and a gamma-ray imaging system scan helped lead to discovery of the bundles of cocaine, authorities said...

The 250 and the 109, which both run from central Croydon to Brixton, recorded 533 "code red" emergency calls from drivers between them in a year... Code red calls are made in response to problems including knife or gun attacks, verbal abuse, fighting, drunken or threatening behaviour... The figures put both routes among the top 40 most dangerous bus journeys in London...
* China - Bus Explosion in China Kills 8, Injures 19
BEIJING,China -Xinhua News Agency /FOX News (USA) -August 06, 2006: -- An explosion aboard a bus in southern China killed eight people on Sunday, a government news agency reported, just days after a similar explosion killed 11... The explosion occurred at about 6:00 p.m. in Hunan province's Guiyang county... Eight people died on the spot and 19 more were taken to hospital with injuries... Last Thursday, 11 people were killed when a blast rocked a bus in southern China's Guizhou province just as it was leaving the terminal. That explosion, which injured 15, was also under investigation... China has suffered a string of fatal explosions aboard public buses in recent years, blamed on both bomb attacks and accidents with gas canisters and other dangerous cargo...
