Jacob's Law - USA - Children must ride in buses, not 15-passenger vans
Spartanburg,SC,USA -Spartanburg Herald Journal (subscription), by AMANDA RIDLEY -June 18, 2006: -- Kim Duncan has less than two weeks to buy two new school buses for her Inman child care center... South Carolina's Jacob's Law -- named for a 6-year-old boy who was killed in Columbia while riding in a 15-passenger van -- says beginning July 1 school-age children must ride to or from school, school-related events or child care in a federally regulated school bus... The law went into effect in 2000, but groups were given six years to replace their 15-passenger vans. Sales of 15-passenger vans to those carrying children were prohibited, but the vans already on the road are allowed to remain until July... (Photo: by ALEX C. A new South Carolina statute, named Jacob's Law, will require anyone transporting school-age children to use buses instead of 15-passenger vans)
