Competition - New Zealand - Court kills off Mana bus deal
Wellington,New Zealand -Stuff.co.nz, by ROELAND VAN DEN BERGH -30 June 2006: -- Competition for Wellington bus services could be in for a shake-up after the city's biggest operator, New Zealand Bus, was prevented from taking over Mana Coaches... The High Court at Wellington found yesterday that New Zealand Bus, which owns the Stagecoach brand in New Zealand, would control 97 per cent of the bus market by value if it was allowed to buy the remaining 74 per cent of Mana it did not already own... Justice Forrie Miller found the acquisition would substantially lessen competition for subsidised bus services contracts let by the Greater Wellington regional council and the Transport Ministry in the region...
