Recall - India - All new BEST buses recalled after another catches fire
Bombay,India -Mid-Day Mumbai -5 Nov 2005: -- BEST has decided to recall the nine newly-inaugurated low-floor buses plying various routes in the city... According to BEST officials, this decision was taken after another bus; on route number 8 caught fire near Bharatmata theatre in Parel. No one was injured... Describing the incident, which took place at 11.55 am yesterday, a senior BEST official said, “This was a comparatively smaller incident compared to the one that happened a few days back when the whole bus was charred. The electrical cable brushed against the exhaust pipe of the bus, which eventually led to the fire”... The alert driver evacuated the bus when he saw the smoke and thus saved the day, he said. BEST will recall the buses to its Backbay depot, where the TATA-manufactured buses will undergo a thorough inspection.
