Transport bosses desperate to boost public confidence in safety on city routes are poised to seal off the stairs at night... They hope the radical step, which could be trialled on after-dark city routes early next year, will keep drink-fuelled trouble in check... Surveys have shown that fear of robbery and violent assault are a major factor in keeping late night passengers off the buses...
