* Quebec - STM users unhappy with service on 105 bus on Sherbrooke

Montreal,QBC,Canada -The Montreal Gazette, by Jason Magder -December 1, 2014: -- After increasing bus service in October, the 105 Sherbrooke bus is still too crowded during morning rush hours, according to Notre-Dame-de-Grâce city councillor Peter McQueen... The Projet Montréal councillor said he handed out flyers door to door and at the Vendôme métro station, asking people to fill out an online survey. Among the more than 600 people who responded, 84 per cent of them said they were unsatisfied with the service, with the biggest complaint being that buses routinely pass them without opening their doors to let passengers in, because they are too crowded... According to figures provided by the STM, the line had an average of 366 trips on weekdays in September 2013. This past September, it was down to 337...

Dr Tom Fawcett studied passengers on an hour-long double-decker bus route that links Bolton with Manchester and noticed that where people chose to sit exposed how they reacted to situations, what sort of temperament they had and even what their interests might be... He concluded that those who sat at the front were forward-thinkers, people who chose the middle seats were independent-minded, while the back seats were occupied by rebellious passengers who didn't like their personal space being invaded...

Passenger Focus * UK - They have their say on West Yorkshire’s buses

West Yorkshire,EN,UK -Passenger Focus -14 July 2010: -- As part of its drive to improve bus services and make a difference for passengers, the independent watchdog Passenger Focus has found out what over 1800 passengers in West Yorkshire think about their bus services. Overall satisfaction was 91%, with Transdev’s services rated 96%, Arriva’s 93% and First’s 89%... Satisfaction with key attributes was: getting a seat (90%), length of time the journey took (83%), journey‘s smoothness and freedom from jolting (81%), punctuality (80%) and length of time spent waiting for the bus (79%)... This bus passenger satisfaction research which was published today is part of an ongoing nationwide programme of bus passenger satisfaction research in 14 areas – a mix of metropolitan, urban and rural areas to reflect the different type of journeys that passengers make... Over 18,500 passengers participated in this detailed investigation which looked at many aspects of passengers’ journeys. This report is the biggest single survey of bus passenger views ever to be published in England...

Survey * Singapore - Motorists giving way to buses reduced waiting time by up to 80%

A simple act of motorists giving way to buses has reduced a passenger's average waiting time for a bus by as much as 80 percent

SBS Transit said its 19-month survey also revealed that waiting time dropped by at least 38 percent when buses were not obstructed while exiting bus bays... To encourage motorists to help the 2.2 million bus passengers have a smoother ride, the company will launch its second campaign to help spread the message among drivers...

SURVEY * UK - Give us better buses, say youngsters

Youngsters are calling for transport to be made safer in Tendring.

Clacton,Essex,UK -The Clacton and Frinton Gazette, by James Dwan -22 Sept 2007: -- The call follows a survey that showed seven in ten children feel unsafe on buses and one in four fear for their safety... More than 650 children from schools and organisations gave details of their experiences of buses, trains, bicycles and taxis... The survey shows most youngsters say buses are too unreliable, drivers unhelpful and buses unclean... Stephen Mayzes, leader of Tendring youth council, said the council is aiming to work with bus operators and police... The council aims to tackle antisocial behaviour and to improve accessibility for young people with cheaper fares...

Survey * UK - Public Attitudes towards bus travel

Almost three-quarters of bus passengers are pleased with the service provided by their local buses, a Department for Transport survey into passenger experiences reveals today

London,UK -eGov monitor -6 September, 2007: -- ... The Public experiences of and attitudes towards bus travel report was commissioned by the Department to improve understanding of the opinions of both users and non-users of their local services... Passengers were found to be generally positive about their experiences, with the vast majority rating the services provided as either 'very' or 'fairly' good... Furthermore, most households could claim to live within a short walk of their nearest bus stop with a quarter of all adults using their local bus service at least once a week...
