BUSES' PURCHASE * India - Cities plump for Central scheme, take to CNG buses

While the urban development ministry laid down several specific conditions and technical criteria for the type of buses that cities would be allowed to buy under the scheme, it didn’t require the buses to be powered by CNG

New Delhi,India -The Wall Street Journal/Live Mint (USA), by Rahul Chandran and Samar Srivastava -4 June 2009: -- The opportunity to earn money by selling carbon credits, growing environmental awareness and the novelty value of buses fuelled by compressed natural gas (CNG) may have prompted some 14 cities to order hundreds of CNG vehicles, taking advantage of a one-time funding scheme offered by the Centre... The cities that have placed orders for CNG buses include Visakhapatnam, Delhi, Indore, Ujjain, Thane, Navi Mumbai, Pune, Pimpri Chinchwad, Agartala, Tripura, Agra, Kanpur and Lucknow, according to urban development secretary M. BUSES' PURCHASE * Dubai - Emirates Transport t snaps up 250 school buses

Khaleej,Dubai/UAE -The Khaleej Times -24 April 2008: -- Emirates Transport has signed an agreement to purchase 250 school buses of 60 passengers capacity each for the year 2008/2009 at a total cost of around Dh100 million... Emirates Transport will receive the buses in June and July... Mohammed Abdullah Al Jurmen, Director General of Emirates Transport, signed the agreement, which also includes purchase of 50 buses equipped for transporting people with special needs... Al Jurmen said Emirates Transport was keen to upgrade the bus fleet according to the highest standards of safety and comfort...


* South Africa - Tshwane buys 100 buses for World Cup

Soweto,South Africa -Sowetan -30 April 2008: -- A total of 100 new buses have been purchased by the City of Tshwane as part of the Bus Rapid Transport (BRT) system... The system will cost R1,9billion... Like other major cities, Tshwane is introducing the BRT to address the public transport challenges ahead of the 2010 Fifa World Cup... Also present at the imbizo were Tim Modise, the LOC’s communications director, and Brazil’s ambassador to South Africa, Jose Vicente...

BUSE'S PURCHASE * India - Volvo sells 240 buses to the city of Bangalore, India

Stockholm,Sweden -AP/The International Herald Tribune (France) -March 25, 2008: -- Swedish bus and truck maker AB Volvo Tuesday said it received an order for 240 buses from the city of Bangalore, India... The company said the 240 buses are set for delivery during 2008 and 2009, and will add to 70 Volvo buses already running in the city...

The Clear Creek School District got the go-ahead Monday night to buy 19 new school buses

Houston,TX,USA -The Citizen online, by MARY ALYS CHERRY -28 Nov 2007: -- With the new vehicles, CCISD will be able to retire 16 aging buses which, in essence, means the addition of just three to its fleet of 237... The new buses, which will be purchased from Longhorn Bus Sales, will cost the district nearly $1.7 million. They will be paid for with bond funds...
