The Chronicle has investigated bus prices in four other towns, as well as London, and found Reading is roughly average for an all-day ticket or equivalent, but an expensive place for single journeys and child tickets... The pricing structure for single tickets in Reading means that even very short journeys cost the full £1.70, while in the other towns and cities analysed – Wolverhampton, Brighton, Rotherham and Aberdeen – a zoning system means shorter journeys can cost as little as 70p...Labels: buses fares

Orange,CAL,USA -The Orange County Register, by SERENA MARIA DANIELS -October 27, 2008: -- The Orange County Transportation Authority took another step Monday toward deciding whether to raise the bus fare from $1.25 to $1.50 and boosting the price for monthly passes and trips for the elderly and the disabled... OCTA board members want to hear more public comment before a decision is made at a Nov. 24 meeting... Rising costs in fuel, health insurance and pensions are cited for the proposed increases... Leahy, the transportation agency's CEO, said a top priority is to keep buses running efficiently so those affected by a declining economy still have access to affordable transportation... The last time fares increased were in June 2005, when a one-way trip went from $1 to $1.25... CTA board members voted Monday to shutter, in December, the Santa Ana Transit Terminal, across the street from the Civic Center complex, nudging bus riders from out of the shade to nearby outdoor stops servicing four routes. Tickets on the London Underground, the train network known locally as the Tube, will remain at 1.50 pounds ($3.10) next year in the central city using an Oyster pre-pay card and 4 pounds for cash fares, the mayor said in an e-mailed statement today. Bus fares will stay at 90 pence for Oyster users and 2 pounds in cash... Shanghai,China -The Shanghai Daily news, by Dong Zhen -28 June 2007: -- From today, bus riders using transport cards will get a fare discount of 0.5 yuan (6 US cents) on their second trip if they transfer to another downtown bus within 90 minutes of the first ride...
