SCHOOL BUS STRIKE * India
* Maharashtra - School bus owners in Pune to go on strike from July 1
(Photo DNA) Pune,Maharashtra,India -Agency DNA -16 June 2014: -- School kids will have to bear the brunt in the new academic session, when over 3,500 private school buses will be off the road as the Pune bus owners association (PBOA) go on an indefinite strike from July 1. This is after the Pune Regional Transport Officer (RTO), on Friday said they would crack down on school buses not adhering to safety norms and don’t have valid permits... Members of PBOA allege that private schools are being lackadaisical about forming school bus committees and are not striking agreements with private buses... Secretary of Pune bus owners association, Kiran Desai, said, “If we get the agreement we will have to pay Rs100 per year per seat instead of Rs1,750 we are paying now. Instead of taking action against the school bus owners, the RTO should ensure that schools sign the agreement” ... Desai further added, “From July 1 we will park all 3,500 buses at the RTO premises and hand over the keys to RTO officers and call for an indefinite strike” ... Secretary of the school bus committee, deputy RTO, Anil Patil said,”We have given enough time to schools and bus owners to sign an agreement. We are not going to refrain from taking action against school buses that are not abiding by safety norms and don’t have a valid permits” ...
