Beijing,China -China Buses, by Lily -25 July 2012: -- According to the United Nations Environmental Program (UNEP), China has spent 17 billion over the last three years on a large scale green drive. Today, Beijing Public Transportation Group (BPT Group) has around 3,086 buses in operation , which makes it become one of the largest CNG bus fleets in the world... BPT Group has 21,018 buses, which all reach or exceed National II emission levels. In the bus fleet, 9,353 buses reach National III emission levels; 6,504 buses reach National IV emission levels; 552 buses reach National V emission levels... From 2007 to 2012, BPT Group has added 7,200 buses...  In 2009, the hybrid buses started to applicate and promote. In Jan. 2011, the fist buses reaching National V emission levels were in operation on the streets of Beijing...

Beijing,China -China Buses, by Lily -24 July 2012: -- According to the data collected by China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, in June, the production and sales of the bus industry are all better than last month and the same period of last year. In the first half year of 2012, the sales of the bus products still keep a little rise trend... In June, the sales of the bus products are 42,500 units, which respectively rise 14.29 percent higher than May 2012 and 2.03 percent higher than June 2011. The rate of produce and sale is 105.35 percent. Among the various bus products, compare to May 2012, the sales growth of large and small buses show obviously growing and the medium buses grow a little. Compared to June 2011, all large, medium and small buses are in a steady growth trend...

Guandong,China -China Buses, by Lily -24 July 2012: -- In Jan.-June 2012, the sales volume of school buses in Guangdong Province are 1,583 units, which account for 14.3 percent of the China's overall school bus' sales. The school bus' sales of Guangdong Province is in the top one in China. Among the sales of the school buses, there are more than 3000 units of school buses from Shangrao Coach...  In order to provide more professional security for the students, each Shangrao bus is equipped with a global positioning system device, child card reader and vehicle data recorder. The first stone for the new plant was laid by Filip van Hool, executive director of Van Hool, in the presence of the Prime Minister of Macedonia, Nikola Gruevski, and other local authorities... The first vehicles will be leaving the new plant in the second part of 2013, and will be shown during the Busworld Exhibition 2013, to be held in October in Kortrijk, Belgium... Van Hool is an independant Belgian manufacturer of buses, coaches and industrial vehicles, founded in 1947 in Koningshooikt. The majority of the vehicles produced is exported to various European countries and to the USA. County Metropolitan Transportation Authority will get $15 million to replace about three dozen aging buses with new ones that run on natural gas. Metro operates the world’s largest fleet of natural gas buses... More than a million passengers board Metro buses every weekday... Omnitrans in the Inland Empire is also getting federal bus money. More than $5 million will go to expand the San Bernardino Transit Center, adding 22 sheltered bus bays that’ll display “real time” arrival information. * Belgium - Van Hool supplies five fuel cell buses to Oslo

The five buses are now being used every day on the roads of the Norwegian capital...  The Van Hool fuel cell buses are 13m long with three axles. Three doors provide access to a lowered floor that extends as far as the central door. The bus has 37 seats, 34 of which are forward-facing. Fuel cell buses have zero emissions (complete absence of harmful emissions and CO2), and a substantially reduced noise level...  The bus has a hybrid electric drive system. The hydrogen in the fuel cells is converted into electricity, with water vapour as the only emission, and the batteries provide additional power where and when necessary. Thanks to this hybrid drive and the recovery and reuse of braking energy, hydrogen consumption is restricted to approximately 30 kg per bus per day...

Guangdong,China -Busworld -19 July 2012: -- The GTQ6117BEVB electric bus made by Zhuhai Guangtong Automobile Co. was recently awarded a European WVTA (Whole Vehicle Type Approval) certificate... The 11.5-meter-long bus, which costs ¥1.9 million ($300,000) to make, has a battery capacity of 220 Kwh. Deploying lightweight materials, the bus weight is comparable with that of a conventional diesel bus despite its 2-ton batterie load. The company says it has already received a 200-unit order from the European market...


* China - BYD employees face temporary salary and benefir curto to trim costs

Pingshan,Shenzhen,P.R.China -Busworld -18 July 2012: -- Chinese electric bus and car manufacturer BYD Co. will reduce employee salaries and benefits by 14 percent for four consecutive months beginning in June, according to Chinese media. The decision follows a steep decline in the company's profits as a result of weaker economic growth across China, reported Caijing, a Beijing-based magazine, citing a notice that BYD sent to its employees... The temporary salary and benefit cuts will save up to 240 million yuan ($38 million). That is a big sum for BYD, whose net profit plunged more than 90 percent to 27 million yuan in the first quarter of this year, the magazine reported. BYD sold 176,796 vehicles in the first five months of this year, down 12 percent from the same period last year, according to LMC Automotive...


* Denmark - Copenhagen is introducing the first full-size pure electric buses from BYD

Copenhagen,Denmark -Busworld -22 July 2012: -- Movia, the largest public transport company in Denmark, and BYD Europe B.V., have announced the introduction of the first full-size pure electric city buses to enter service in Copenhagen, which has set itself an ambitious goal in terms of sustainable mobility: to become the world’s first zero-emission capital by 2025. The two electric buses provided by BYD will operate on trial service on different passenger-carrying routes with different loads in Copenhagen for two years. The project is being carried out in cooperation with the Municipality of Copenhagen, DONG Energy, City-Trafik and Arriva.The BYD electric bus is 12 metres long (40 feet). It is able to run 250 km (155 miles) on a single charge in urban conditions. The Fe battery (Iron Phosphate battery) fitted in the BYD electric bus boasts the highest safety, longest service life and most environmentally-friendly rechargeable chemistry and contains no heavy metals or toxic electrolytes. BYD electric buses are now in regular passenger service in several cities in China, Europe and North America, making BYD the largest electric bus manufacturer in the world, according to the company. The accumulated mileage achieved for BYD electric buses by the end of May 2012 has reached over 7 million kilometers (or 4.35 million miles)...


* Germany - First TÜV RHEINLAND Certified electric city bus exported from China to the EU

Cologne,Germany -Busworld -23 July 2012: -- TÜV Rheinland recently awarded EU Whole Vehicle Type Approval (WVTA) to the Jiangsu ALFA Bus Corporation, the first Chinese manufacturer successfully exports electrical inner city bus to Italy in conformity with European standards... At the 2010 Busworld Asia exhibition, the Italian urban passenger vehicle operator LAMA showed great interests in the pure electric bus manufactured by Jiangsu ALFA Bus, and stated its intention to make a sizeable purchase of such vehicles to use in Grosseto, Italy. However, pure electric vehicles cannot be exported to Italy unless they gain an EU WVTA, a very strict form of approvals that the EU Committee ensures member countries implement on whole vehicles, safety components and systems on the basis of EC directives and regulations. TÜV Rheinland carried out the related testing for half a year, certifying 26 system approvals...

Montevideo,Uruguay -Green Car Congress -19 July 2012: -- José Mujica, President of Uruguay, China-based BYD, CTS and Buquebus officials signed a contract to begin bringing electric buses into Uruguay. The first BYD electric buses will arrive in Uruguay before end of 2012 with targets to have over 500 buses running on roads by 2015... The BYD GreenCity buses are able to run 250 km (155 miles) on a single charge in urban conditions, with an energy consumption of less than 130 kWh per 100 km. The BYD buses have been in service in four cities including Shenzhen, Changsha, Shaoguan and Xi’an accumulating more than 5.6 million kilometers (or 3.4 million miles) by the end of April 2012...

The battery packs are based on A123 Systems' prismatic cells and will be used in BAE's HybriDrive Series propulsion system. The new battery packs, which are more compact and economical, are expected to be used on city transit buses and in other commercial applications... A123 Systems has manufactured battery packs for BAE that power nearly 3,000 buses globally in a partnership that dates back more than five years...

* Germany - Mercedes will deliver 450 Citaro buses to  Singapore

Mannheim,Germany -InAutoNews -19 July 2012: -- Mercedes received an order of 450 Citaro buses from Singapore’s SBS Transit, the most important public transportation company in the city... In April 2011 SBS Transit made an order of 300 Mercedes-Benz Citaro, and the last of these vehicles are currently being delivered. Now the company made another order of 450 units, all complying with the Euro 5 emission standard... The buses will be produced at the EvoBus plant in Mannheim, adapted to be used on Singapore’s roads. This is the biggest Asian order for the most successful city bus of all time, which saw production of over 33,000 units in 13 years. From May 2012, the EvoBus plant began production of the first series-production Citaro to meet the Euro VI emissions standard...


* Burma -To Import 3,000 New Buses from Japan

Rangoon,Burma -The Irrawaddy, by MAY LAY -July 17, 2012: -- Burma’s crumbling public transport system is set for a major overhaul with 3,000 new buses to be imported from Japan this year under a joint initiative. Around 70 Japanese engineers will give training in the three main cities of Rangoon, Mandalay and Naypyidaw in order to maintain the vehicles... The city bus importing project will be run by the Oriental Transportation Company as a joint-venture between several Japanese auto-manufacturing firms, which will receive 60 percent of profits, and the Burmese Ministry of Transportation, which will receive 40 percent. But not everyone is happy about the news with existing bus owners worried that importing thousands of new vehicles from Japan will adversely affect their livelihoods...

The municipality has hooked up with Grupo Criar, a company specialized in traffic systems, to design the Busalert app to make it easier and more efficient to use the city’s bus network... The passenger sends out a text message and receives a link to the application, which is then installed on their smartphone. At the bus stop, or even before leaving home, the passenger keys in the number of the bus route as well as the stop where they will wait for it from. A recorded voice provides information on the distance, length of wait and how many bus stops the vehicle needs to cover. Once on the bus, they enter the number of the stop where they will alight. The software will feed back information on the distance and time left to reach the destination...

 * Sweden - Volvo introducing new EURO 6 engine

Stockholm,Sweden -Busworld (Belgium) -7 July 2012: -- Volvo is introducing a Euro-6-compliant heavy-duty engine, with NOx emissions lowered by 77% and PM emissions halved compared to Euro 5. The first implementation of the new engine is the D13 460 hp (343 kW) unit. The Volvo D13 for Euro 6 is based on Volvo’s Euro 5 engine. Just like that unit, the new engine is an in-line six cylinder engine with unit injectors and catalytic exhaust treatment (SCR). In order to meet the new emission requirements, exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) is also used, as well as a diesel particulate filter (DPF)—systems that Volvo has already been using for several years in the US and Japan...

* Germany - New ZF TRAXON transmission custom-made for EURO 6 and EPA 10

Friedrichshafen,Baden-Württemberg,Germany -Busworld (Belgium) -6 July 2012: ... ZF has developed a new generation of gearboxes, the TraXon, to be used behind the coming Euro 6 engines. The TraXon is a modular transmission which makes the application of several drive units with one basic transmission possible. For example, for the first time, dual-clutch and hybrid modules are used in coaches...  Launching customer for this new transmission line will probably be MAN, who might be offering it starting early next year on their MAN trucks and MAN and Neoplan coaches with Euro 6 engine. The TraXon will not be available for citybuses. The new TraXon transmission weighs nearly as much as the AS Tronic and is a bit shorter...

* The Netherlands - VDL to buy Nedcar plant for €1, but nothing has been signed yet 

Born,Limburg,Holland -DutchNews -11 July 2012: -- Japan's Mitsubishi Motors has agreed to sell the Nedcar plant in Born, Limburg to Dutch industrial group VDL for a token €1... The Japanese firm said it had agreed a token price with the VDL group in exchange for keeping the plant running... Mitsubishi said last year it was stopping production at the plant at the end of this year, giving rise to fears 1,500 jobs would be lost... On Tuesday, BMW confirmed it would start producing its popular Mini cars at the Dutch plant... Despite the reported Mitsubishi statement, a spokeswoman for VDL told the Telegraaf no actual agreement has yet been signed. 'This is an agreement in principle,' she said...

* Sweden - Göterborg Energi orders two Opbrid Busbaar ultra-fast bus charging stations for Hyperbus Project

Gothenburg,Sweden -Busworld (Belgium) -13 July 2012: -- Göteborg Energi, the electricity provider for the City of Gothenburg, awarded a contract to Opbrid SL (Granada, Spain) to provide two Opbrid Bůsbaar ultra-fast bus charging stations for the HyperBus demonstration project in Gothenburg City. This project will consist of three new Volvo plug-in hybrid buses running in traffic and charging for 5-8 minutes at each end of the #60 bus line. The plug-in hybrid bus is based on the existing Volvo 7900 hybrid bus design, but with the addition of a larger, energy-optimized battery and the ability to connect to the Opbrid Bůsbaar ultra-fast charging station. Use of the Bůsbaar extends the all-electric range of the hybrid bus to a predicted 75% or more of the route... 

* USA - New Flyer unveils first all-electric transit bus prototype

St. Cloud,MN,USA -Busworld (Belgium) -12 July 2012: -- New Flyer Industries Inc., manufacturer of heavy-duty transit buses in Canada and the United States, has unveiled its prototype all-electric 40-foot Xcelsior heavy-duty transit bus...  The bus is equipped with an electric drive and is modified to carry advanced lithium ion batteries from MHI that are charged from the city’s electrical grid instead of by a conventional diesel engine... Further demonstration and testing of the electric bus will occur during the next two years starting with dry-run operational testing by project personnel and then moving to operation under select route conditions...

* Indonesia - Launches locally developer electric bus

Yakarta,Indonesia -Busworld (Belgium) -10 July 2012: -- At the 17th National Technology Awakening Day Information Center, researchers from the Indonesian Academy of Sciences’ (LIPI) Mechatronics and Electric Power Research Center came out with an electric bus prototype that is able to carry 17 passengers with a top speed of 100 kilometers per hour. A fully charged 500-Ampere LifeP04 lithium battery can power the bus for a distance of some 150 kilometers. Using the battery, researchers claim the bus will reduce operational costs by some 50 percent and maintenance costs by some 70 percent, and furthermore, the well-known benefits such as being energy efficient, environmentally friendly, and low emission producers ... The fact that the battery is still imported, however, will place a heavier burden on manufacturing costs once the bus is mass-produced. Each electric bus costs some Rp 1.2 billion (US$127,200)...

* UK - London adds 300th hybrid bus introduced to fleet

The 300th hybrid bus is now in service on route 211 between Waterloo and Hammersmith. A further 104 hybrid buses are on order using £5 million (US$7.8 million) funding from the Department for Transport... The diesel-electric hybrid buses deliver fuel savings of 30% reducing operational costs for TfL but also a 20% reduction in NOx delivering environmental benefits for Londoners... 

* India - Eicher Motors' JV secures 1,019 bus chassis order from GSRTC

New Delhi,India -Accord Fintech/Yahoo News –6 Jul, 2012: -- Volvo-Eicher Commercial Vehicles, a joint venture (JV) between Volvo Group and Eicher Motors has bagged contract from Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation (GSRTC). The order is for supply of 1,019 bus chassis to the Gujarat transport body. However, the company did not reveal the total contract value... GSRTC is already using Eicher buses for meeting the inter-city and rural connectivity requirements of that state...

* Germany - 2,000th Setra bus for Switzerland
 
Stuttgart,Germany -Wheelsology -13 July 2012: ... Sales of Setra buses, now one of the brands of the Stuttgart-based Daimler AG, began in Switzerland back in 1953. And now the 2,000th Setra bus has been delivered to the Swiss Confederation, the owner of the new S 431 DT TopClass... 400 double-deck coach is the company Ernst Marti AG in Kallnach, in the Canton of Berne... The three-axle coach has four-star classification and seats a total of 78 passengers...  With a range of features that include proximity-controlled cruise control with Active Brake Assist, the Lane Assistant system and an automatic fire extinguishing system in the engine compartment, the 13.89-m-long luxury touring coach includes all the assistance systems on offer from Setra to help make travelling even safer...

London,EN,UK -Busworld (Belgium) -27 June 2012: -- Transport for London (TfL) has commissioned SP Technical Research Institute of Sweden (SP) to study the effectiveness of bus fire suppression systems. There is currently a lack of information concerning the performance of bus fire suppression systems in real bus fires that have occurred in the TfL fleet. The proposed study will review all recent fire incidents in TfL buses with installed suppression systems. The results of this review will be reported back to TfL to help provide recommendations concerning updated system specification. SP Fire Technology conducts research, testing and certification of products related to fire safety...

The Obama campaign is eager to highlight the $85 billion bailout and the rescue of General Motors Co. and Chrysler Group LLC — and the opposition of Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, to the government bailouts of the two automakers--  Obama's bus tour will take him through northern Ohio close to the Detroit media market... President George W. Bush bailed out the two in December 2008, concluding there were no other options than immediate government assistance... The facility in Slupsk employs close to 700 people... Scania Production Slupsk bodyworks the OmniCity and OmniLink models, and assembles chassis for the OmniCity as well...
