Washington,DC,USA -The Detroit News, by David Shepardson -July 5, 2012: -- President Barack Obama plans to tout the strong sales results from Detroit's Big Three automakers in June in a two-bus trip that starts today in Toledo, campaign officials say... The Obama campaign is eager to highlight the $85 billion bailout and the rescue of General Motors Co. and Chrysler Group LLC — and the opposition of Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, to the government bailouts of the two automakers-- Obama's bus tour will take him through northern Ohio — close to the Detroit media market... President George W. Bush bailed out the two in December 2008, concluding there were no other options than immediate government assistance... Obama added about $60 billion in aid and forced GM and Chrysler into government-sponsored bankruptcy reorganizations... Romney says he would have aided automakers — but would have insisted GM and Chrysler enter bankruptcy before getting government aid...
