Halifax,NS,CAN -The Chronicle Herald/Metro, by KELLY SHIERS -June 24, 2009: -- With video rolling on more than 175 buses, the president of the bus drivers union says he thinks the presence of the recording devices will help drive down the number of confrontations occurring between passengers or between passengers and drivers... Dan MacDonald, Amalgamated Transit Union Local 508 president, said, "The biggest thing is that if an incident does occur, we have a very good description of the individual that was involved in the incident"... Metro Transit began installing the cameras in its buses in February, after its original plan to do so over five years was fast-tracked in the wake of serious assaults on drivers... Last October, HRM councillors awarded a $1.28-million tender to do the work...
